Let’s be honest, it’s nice to think that we are beautiful the way God made us, that even when we are waking up we look perfect, but in fact, even Cinderella needed a little of magic to look amazing.

Seamos honestas, es lindo pensar que despertamos de forma maravillosa y que naturalmente somos perfectas, pero la realidad es que hasta Cenicienta necesitó un poco de magia para verse espectacular.

We could spend hours talking about the big changes that we could make to change our looks, botox and knife included, but I rather to focus on the “little helps” that allow us to be presentable everyday. As my boss’s boss says “a woman that doesn’t put on some makeup or has her hair done, has no respect for others.” So to be able to show our faces without needing a mask, here are some things I’ve learned in my VERY FEW years.

Podríamos pasar horas hablando de las grandes cosas que podríamos hacer para mejorar nuestro aspecto, por supuesto botox y bisturí incluidos, pero prefiero que nos enfoquemos en “ayudaditas” de la vida diaria que nos permiten salir al mundo y poder ver a los otros a la cara. Bien dice el jefe de mi jefe “una mujer que no se peina y se pinta, no tiene respeto por los demás”. Así que para no necesitar escondernos detrás de una máscara, estos son algunas cosas que mis MUY pocos años me han enseñado.

1. Mascara is your best friend. I don’t want to argue about this, I have said it more than once, I’d rather have to go out without a shirt than without mascara. It’s a Lord’s wonder to witness how your face goes from 0 to 10 in the moment you curl your eyelashes and put some mascara on them. My recommendation, always wear waterproof.

1. El rimmel es tu mejor amigo. No quiero discusiones, lo he dicho más de una vez, prefiero salir a la calle sin blusa que sin rimmel. Es una maravilla del Señor el ver como tu cara pasa de 0 a 10 en el momento en el que te enchinas las pestañas y te pones un poco de rimmel. Mi recomendación, que siempre sea waterproof.

2. Removing makeup is not an option. This fits in the same category of: “bath is not an option, wearing perfume is not an option and watching after your legs color when you wear skirts is not an option.”It doesn’t matter how late it is, how tired you are, or how much you hate to do it, if you want to have a healthy relationship with your “older you” , you better start removing NOW. There are few things more disgusting than a girl with last night’s makeup.

2. Desmaquillarte no es opcional. Entra en la misma categoría de bañarte no es opcional, ponerte perfume no es opcional y cuidar el color de tus piernas no es opcional. No importa lo tarde que sea, lo cansada que estés o lo mucho que lo odies, si quieres caerle bien a tu “más vieja tú”, más te vale que te empieces a desmaquillar. Pocas cosas tan desagradables como las niñas que traen puesto el maquillaje de una noche anterior.

3. A facial emask has never hurt anyone. For me a mud one is great, but each skin is different so look the one for you and put it on as Grey’s Anatomy new season is on, believe me you won’t even notice you have it on. CAUTION: Never try to get rid of pimples after wearing a facial mask, it will get you more pimples, depression, eating chocolate, staying home, I guess you’ve gotten the idea.

3. A nadie le cae mal una mascarilla de vez en cuando. En mi caso, la mejor es la de barro, pero cada tipo de piel es distinta, así que busca la que mejor te vaya y póntela mientras ves la nueva temporada de Grey’s Anatomy, ni siquiera vas a notar que la traes puesta! PRECAUCIÓN: Nunca decidas quitarte granitos justo después de quitarte una mascarilla, eso sólo te va a llevar a tener granitos, deprimirte, comer chocolate, no salir de tu casa, crisis total!

4. Outlining your lips with a darker color is the worst thing you could do, yes, we all know it was in 20 years ago, why the hell would you keep doing it? If you do this, stop reading, I don’t want to talk to you anymore.

4. Delinearte la boca de un tono más oscuro es una falta de respeto, sí, todas sabemos que estuvo de moda hace 20 años, por qué demonios lo seguirías haciendo? Si lo sigues haciendo por favor para de leer y vete a confesar, ya no quiero hablar contigo.

5. Wearing chapstick/carmex/ lipbalm may save your life. Do you know that your lips get wrinkled too? I know, a total shocker. Also, no one likes a dry mouth, with scars or hurt, this applies equally to men, for God’s sake put something on those lips.

5. Usar chapstick/carmex/lipbalm te puede salvar la vida. ¿Sabías que tus labios también se arrugan? Ya sé, shocker total. Además a nadie le gusta una boca seca, con cortaditas o lastimada; y esto aplica exactamente igual en los hombres, por lo que más quieran pónganse algo en esos labios.

6. 5 minutes with a tea bag or a cold spoon on time are much better than a 24 hour day with eye bags and dark circles. This advice is perfect for me today, it takes 5 minutes of your time to get your beautiful face back, no one likes a tired face. Remember hungover inside, perfect outside. (Our new motto).

6. 5 minutos de una bolsa de té o una cuchara fría a tiempo valen más un día entero con ojeras y bolsas en los ojos. Esto me aplica a mí hoy perfectamente, literal te tardas un par de minutos en restaurar tu carita, a nadie le gusta la gente cansada, recuerda cruda por dentro, perfecta por fuera. (Nuestro nuevo lema).

7. Eyebrows frame your face, take care of them! Removing a lot or not removing them, are both bad things to do. There have to be 2 of them, always groomed and they never should make you look as a surprised trasvesti. If you have them tattoed, you also have to stop reading and go to the corner to think of what have you done.

7. Las cejas enmarcan tu cara, cuídalas! Depilarlas de más, depilarlas de menos, ambos son un pecado. Siempre deben ser 2, siempre deben estar cuidadas y nunca deben parecer de trasvesti sorprendido. Si te las tatúas también puedes dejar de leer e irte al rincón de los castigos.

It is not a good moment to overwhelm you with translucent powder, details on your tiny pores or the need of sunscreen. But please be humble enough to admit that your washed face is not enough, and that tiny details make huge improvements.

No es momento de abrumarlas con polvo tráslucido, con detalles explícitos sobre las necesidades de sus pequeños poros y de la importancia del bloqueador. Pero por favor no sean tan prepotentes de creer que su cara lavada es suficiente, los pequeños detalles hacen las grandes diferencias.
